Todo empieza en cero

KM0 is a practice app for IB Spanish ab initio: vocabulary and verb drills on a metro map. This page explains how the identity works, so anything new looks and sounds like KM0.

The name

KM0 is short for kilómetro cero. In Madrid's Puerta del Sol, a plaque in the pavement marks the point every one of Spain's radial roads is measured from. It is the place you start from.

The app works the same way. Every theme is a line, every list is a station, and every line runs out of Sol, the real home of kilómetro cero. Say it the Spanish way, ka eme cero, or just "K-M-zero".

The Zero

The symbol is a tall zero lit in sodium amber, with a dot at its centre: a dotted zero, the old sign-maker's way of telling 0 from O. The dot is the origin, kilómetro cero itself, and takes the ink of the screen.

Wordmark and lockup

The wordmark keeps its narrow drawn KM, with the Zero standing in for the 0. The lockup adds the tagline underneath, tracked wide. Letters and dot take the ink of the screen; the Zero is always amber (a deeper amber on e-paper).

Don't

No bar through the ZeroIt is a station marker, not a transit-company roundel.
No new coloursThe Zero is always amber and the dot always ink, never a line colour.
No round ONever stretch, squash or swap the Zero for a circle or the letter O.
No rays or burstsLines only meet the Zero on the metro map, at 0° and 45°.

Colour

KM0 is the screen inside a metro carriage. Three colours carry the brand: the lit screen, its ink, and sodium amber, the one lit accent. The wall and bezel frame every screen. The six line colours are enamel paints that belong to the themes and only appear where a theme is meant.

Type

B612 carries all text. Airbus drew it for cockpit screens, to stay readable on a lit display at a glance. Headings are bold and in sentence case; only small labels use tracked capitals. B612 Mono sets codes and keys. Doto, a dot-matrix face, is kept for short numbers such as the exam countdown, never for words you study. Numbers are always tabular.
